Altea will align its government action with the SDGs of the 2030 Agenda.

The implementation of the United Nations document in the municipality will boost economic, social and environmental growth.

Altea Town Council is publishing a comprehensive strategy to guide its government action around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda. The Altea 2030 Agenda Plan will favour the absorption of European funds driven by the Next Generation (2020-2023) and by the structural funds of the current multiannual framework (2021-2027).

In order to apply these issues in Altea and improve the governance instruments in the hands of the council, the Department of European Projects has developed a strategy based on three fundamental parts. The first is a technical diagnosis that analyses the state of the town; then, citizen participation with the aim of broadening the technical vision by assimilating the demands of the citizens; and finally, the definition of an action plan preceded by a SWOT analysis based on the parameters of the Spanish Urban Agenda and the definition of its own objectives as a solution to the problems detected.

Among the new strategies, citizen participation processes are proposed through a survey launched on social networks. The questionnaire is available at: https://forms.gle/FKUwnp55MUsdYyz28

The Altea 2030 Plan is structured in six axes which, in turn, are divided into different lines. Each of these is related to one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda and the Points of the Spanish Urban Agenda, the national adaptation of the SDGs focused on the urban scene. The areas of work agreed upon are Social well-being, municipality of care and opportunities; Transformation and resilience of the economic model; Modernisation, digitalisation and innovation for governance and participation; Urban scene and sustainable mobility; Environmental sustainability and energy efficiency; Sustainability of the tourism model; and Altea Futuro: EuroAltea. In the definition of these, some projects already implemented by the Town Council have been taken into account, such as the Youth Plan, the Altea Market platform, the Altea Participa website, the certification as an Intelligent Tourist Destination or the EuroAltea office.

Sustainable development

The 2030 Agenda is a global document promoted by the United Nations and endorsed by 193 countries. This agenda presents seventeen goals and one hundred and sixty-nine targets that should have an impact on all regions of the world. The sustainability that is advocated aims to promote growth based on a balance between the economic, social and environmental dimensions. All of this with the aim of ordering progress that is fair to future generations.
