    Period of the project:

From October 2024 to October 2027

AN INNOVATIVE INITIATIVE IN ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENT AND SOIL SUSTAINABILITY.

The main goal of this project is to implement digital tools for the “Soil Pact for Europe”. To this end, the aim is to design a methodology that will contribute to the achievement of the EU’s ambitious plans by promoting soil literacy and connectivity.

SOILTRIBES brings together 25 partners, from 11 countries in different EU regions, and designs a methodology that will contribute to the achievement of the EU’s ambitious plans by promoting soil literacy and connectivity through modeling and inclusion in advanced digital decision support tools; monitoring of nutrients and chemical or biological stressors in soil and plants with relevance to food security and nutrition; innovations to prevent and combat desertification; soil-friendly practices in horticulture, including alternative growing media; bringing communities and citizens closer to the soil; and co-creating solutions for soil health in Living Labs.

The intent of SOILTRIVES is to pave the way towards inspiring “back to Earth” narratives translated into new formats of knowing, feeling and behaving in relation to the soil, its importance and challenges, and its future, which is deeply connected to our own. Approximately 60-70% of EU soils are unhealthy and soil degradation costs the EU several tens of thousands of billions of euros per year. The EU mission “A pact for soil for Europe” aims to reverse this situation, for which it has designed an ambitious plan in which citizens and organizations are the key.

CCIs, artists and civil society organizations can play an important role in promoting an ecological transition by engaging people and raising the profile of environmental issues. In collaboration with soil experts, they can contribute to increasing soil literacy by mobilizing people in protecting and restoring soil health, as well as addressing soil challenges through creative activities.
