Set up in 2016 by the Government of the Generalitat Valenciana, the Cities for Sustainable Development Alliance aims to disseminate and transfer at local level the importance of committing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
The aim is to strengthen the role of global citizenship, based on knowledge of the reality of impoverished countries and the factors that aggravate inequality, social injustice and gender inequality, contributing to the formation of citizens with a critical, participative and supportive spirit, in favour of sustainable, equitable and inclusive human development.
This Alliance considers it essential to territorialise the objectives set out in the United Nations 2030 Agenda, starting at the cities and towns level, as the first and closest actors of public policies.
The Plenary of the Town Council of Altea certified the incorporation to the Cities for Sustainable Development Alliance in a session held on 6 May 2021.
