Altea participates in the World Summit of the Family organised by the United Nations.

The session took place on 28th and 29th June in Geneva.

Altea Town Council, through its European Projects Office, EuroAltea, has participated in the 75th anniversary of the World Summit on the Family, organized by the United Nations in Geneva.

Altea has been invited to participate in this summit as a result of the success of the URBACT project and the recognition by the United Nations of the important role that volunteering plays.

In these working days, in which the Sustainable Development Goals have been addressed, with emphasis on how to improve family health at the municipal level after the pandemic of COVID-19. All this by promoting volunteering and its benefits at the individual, collective and local community level. The commitment of volunteers in such projects not only has personal benefits, but also helps their local community, thus creating fairer and more sustainable villages.

The first day, which took place on Tuesday 28 June, began with the opening of the assembly with speeches by UNITAR Secretary General Nikhil Seth, followed by speeches by several ambassadors.

The first plenary session addressed the Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on inclusion, resilience, sustainable livelihoods, well-being and dignity for recovery from the crisis caused by COVID-19. The second session dealt with the Sustainable Development Goals on equality, work and economy and sustainable cities.

Wednesday’s session included presentations by several networks of cities belonging to the URBACT programme. The successful results of each project were shared.

Regarding the contribution of Altea Town Council in the Assembly, it has participated in the Good Practice Panel of the URBACT programme of voluntary cities, of which Altea has been a partner, and in which the implementation of the SDGs, Sustainable Development Goals, at local level is considered as a priority.
