The European URBACT Voluntary Cities programme came to an end after more than 24 months of work. Last Monday 24th May it was closed with a meeting at European level, which should have been held at the headquarters of the lead partner of the project in Cyprus but, due to the international health situation, it has been held virtually. The European partners came from Ireland, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Poland, Croatia, Cyprus and Spain, represented by Altea and the local associations Corazón Exprés, Cruz Roja Altea and De Amicitia.
During the event, good practices related to volunteering in all participating countries were shared with the aim of putting them into practice in the different cities and, thus, increase volunteering in the European population and improve the quality of life of the community.
EuroAltea, summarised the work of the last few years between Altea Town Council and local associations. With the implementation of the learning log we have learned a new way of networking, a methodology for the development of local policies that has led to a better quality of life in our municipality.
The local objectives of participation in the programme include improving citizen participation, intergenerationality and getting young people more involved in volunteering in Altea. Thanks to the URBACT programme, the associations have registered a very significant increase in the participation of young people in volunteering activities.
